Egg: Black, spidery pigment blotches on the oil globule, embryo and a few on the yolk, is the description in my notes on this egg. The yolk was segmented and milky, the surface granular. The oil globule was clear, but later becamedensely covered in black pigment, which also formed two dense rows on the embryo (A). Twenty-four hours later, five big blotches of black pigment were seen on the embryo (B).
Larva: The only larva seen was 1 day PH (21°C). The distinctive pattern of black pigment is shown (C & D).
This egg has only been seen twice, in May 1991, and October 2006. The latter larva has been sequenced, but no match has been found among adult South African material, and the wider sequence archive of BOLD.
