Egg: Prior to hatching, the embryo develops a broken line of black pigment dashes on the edge of both the dorsal and ventral finfolds (A). The oil globule is clear. Incubation takes about 70 hours (23°C).
Larva: The black pigment in the finfold edge can be seen in the newly hatched larva (C), when gut length is 44% of NL. The larva has not been reared past this stage. B: NH.
The egg and larva bear some resemblance to LIA2, but the myomere count is too low for any species in that family (Trichiuridae). The larva shown in Plate B has been submitted for DNA barcoding, but the result is not yet available.

This egg has only been seen on three occasions off Park Rynie (blue graph). The egg was not seen in the DHM samples.
